Howard and Kennedy Recognized As LSC Scholar-Athletes

West Texas A&M University student-athletes Carlee Howard and Chad Kennedy were recognized as Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award recipients announced today (June 14) by the conference office.
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
Carlee Howard graduated with a 3.723 GPA with a degree in biology education. Howard was a member of the WTAMU Alpha Chi Honor Society, as well as being named to both the Dean's List and the President's List. Howard was also selected to the LSC South All-Academic Team.
Howard, a 5-5 senior guard, was named to the honorable mention All-LSC South list, after leading the LSC and ranking fifth in the nation in 3-point FG made. She also led the conference and ranked sixth in the country in 3-point FG pct. Howard leaves the Lady Buffs' program as the WTAMU single-season and career record holder for 3-pointers, making 93 this season and 214 for her career. Howard also set a new LSC and WTAMU record by draining 10 treys in a game, a mark that was later tied by Angelo State's Sharon Ballenger.
He was a 2002 WTAMU Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient, as well as a member of the 2002-'03 WTAMU All-Academic Team.
This season he punted 59 times for a 42.7 average, with 15 inside the 20, with a long of 76 yards. Kennedy also had an 18-yard run against Eastern New Mexico in the Buffs' 49-23 Wagon Wheel Game victory.
For his career, Kennedy had 130 career punts for a 39.9 average with 26 punts inside the 20. His career-long was 80 yards.
