CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M women's basketball coach Krista Gerlich has announced the signing of Ariel Robertson of Cedar Hill, Texas (Cedar Hill High) and Brittany Williams of Sudan, Texas (Sudan High) to national letters-of-intent to attend WTAMU and play for the Lady Buffs during the 2009-10 academic year. In addition to the signees, Division I transfers Madelyn Brown of Rochester, N.Y. (Texas Tech) and Aly Sherman of Mt. Vernon, Texas (Central Arkansas) are set to join the 2009-10 Lady Buff Roster. Also joining the 2009-10 squad is Megan Janousek of The Woodlands, Texas (College Park High). These players join previously signed Callie Schneiderjan. Madelyn Brown, a 5-11 forward, joins the Lady Buffs as a senior after spending two seasons at Texas Tech and one season at Pittsburgh. While at Tech, Brown saw action in 19 games with one starting appearance. At Pitt, she played in 33 games with 12 starts and averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and shot 34.8 percent from the field. She attended high school at Honeoye Falls-Lima in Rochester, N.Y., where, as a senior, she helped lead her team to a New York State Class A state championship and was named the New York State player of the year. Brown finished her four-year career with more than 2,000 career points and averaged 24.6 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. "Maddy is a prolific three-point shooter, but can also attack the rim very aggresively and finish," Gerlich said. "She will be a strong guard for us who can play the four position and her passing ability adds a whole other dimension to her game." A 5-9 forward, Ariel Robertson averaged 13 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game in her senior season under the direction of head coach Andrea Robinson at Cedar Hill High in Cedar Hill, Texas. She also tallied 1.6 steals per game and was named to the all-district 8-4A second team.
"Ariel is a big strong guard that has unbelievable vertical jumping ability," Gerlich said. "She shoots a jump shot three-pointer and can jump over her defenders at any time to get a shot off." Aly Sherman is a 5-10 guard and joins the Lady Buffs after spending one season at Central Arkansas. Sherman saw action in 19 games with one starting appearance. She tallied a season-high 10 points and eight rebounds against Oral Roberts. Sherman attended high school at Mt. Vernon HS, in Mt. Vernon, Texas where she led the Lady Tigers to two class 3-A state semifinal appearances. She was a McDonald's all-American nominee and was named the MVP of the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-star game in 2008. During her senior year, Sherman averaged 20 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, and seven steals per game. "Aly comes to us from Division I Central Arkansas with three years of elegibility," Gerlich said. "She is a guard who can get to the rim, pull up for a jumper, or post up on the block if needed. She is extremely athletic and her versatility will enable us to use her at several positions." Brittany Williams, a 5-8 guard, joins the Lady Buffs after a succesful high school career at Sudan High in Sudan, Texas. She was tabbed the TABC and TGCA Class A player of the year as a senior and was also a two-time all-state selection. She was a two-time state all-tournament team selection, a three-time TABC all-region team selection, and a four-time all-district selection. As a senior, Williams averaged 14 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, 4.5 steals per game, and 2.8 assists per game. A multi-sport athlete, Williams is a two-time state champion in the triple jump and recently set a regional meet record with a jump of 38-06.5. "Brittany is one of the most overall athletic players we have ever recruited," Gerlich said. "She has the ability to play multiple positions and creat difficult match-ups for our opponents." A 5-9 guard, Megan Janousek, joins the Lady Buffs after a succesful career at College Park High in The Woodlands, Texas. She is a four-time all-district honoree, earning honorable mention, second team, and first team recognition. In her junior year, Janousek was named as an all-state honorable mention by the Texas Basketball Magazine and was also named to the all Greater Houston Area first team. Her senior season was cut short due to a knee injury. "Megan is a steal for our program," Gerlich said. "She played on a very talented high school team and though it took much of her senior year to recover from the injury, she is a tremendous shooter who is getting back in rhythm to impact our team in a very positive way." |
