West Texas A&M University women's basketball head coach Bob Schneider announced that local talent, Emily Brister from Amarillo, Texas has signed to play basketball for the Lady Buffs.

Brister, a 5-10 scrappy, guard, joins the Lady Buffs from Amarillo High School, where she was the Player of the Year for District 2-5A, earning first-team Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region and first-team Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State accolades as a senior, after averaging 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals per game. She was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year All-District performer. Brister played in last weekend's Texas Golden Spread High School All-Star Tournament, leading the West squad to a third-place finish, netting 25 points in the Consolation game and earning All-Tournament honors.

"Emily works really hard in all aspects of the game. We really like her attitude on the court, she goes full speed at all times and is always around the ball, both offensively and defensively," Schneider said. "She has a great desire for the game. Emily is very good at penetrating the lane and dishing to a teammate or drawing a foul. She can score a lot of points from the free throw line because she draws fouls from her penetration and is a very good free throw shooter.

"We also really like her defensive skills and her rebounding ability. She goes to the boards really well. Emily fits in well with our philosophy for the game and will be a great representative and reflection of Lady Buff basketball."

Brister is the second member of the Lady Buffs' recruiting class, joining Mariah Willis from Odessa, Texas.

WTAMU finished the season with a 21-9 record, losing in the quarterfinals of the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament to Washburn, who went on to the NCAA-II National Championship. The Lady Buffs reached the 20-win plateau for the 18th season under head coach Bob Schneider, including each of the last three years.
