West Texas A&M University women's basketball players Jennifer Brock and Natalie Wheeler received academic recognition from the Lone Star Conference, announced by the conference office.

Brock was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team, while Wheeler was tabbed to the LSC South Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Brock, a 5-8 junior guard from Abernathy, Texas, has a 3.70 GPA majoring in English. She returned to the Lady Buffs' lineup this season after missing last year due to a knee injury. This year, Brock set a new WTAMU single-season assists record, as she ends the season with 222 helpers, leading the LSC with 6.9 assists per game, ranking second on the single-season assist average list. For her career, Brock now has 412 assists, ranking third on WTAMU's career assists list. Brock also earned All-LSC South honorable mention accolades this season, as she averaged 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as well. Brock set a career-high by dishing out a career-high 14 assists on Feb. 11 against TAMUK. Brock dished out at least six assists in 21 games this season.

Junior guard/forward Natalie Wheeler was named to the LSC South Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, joining junior guard Jennifer Brock who was tabbed to the LSC South All-Academic Team.

Wheeler, a 5-9 junior guard/forward, is majoring in marketing with a 3.56 GPA. Wheeler tallied 12.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season, earning honorable mention All-LSC South accolades as well. She ranked third on the team and 26th in the LSC in scoring. Wheeler was second on the team in free throw percentage, hitting .783 (65-of-83).

The duo helped lead WTAMU to its conference-record eighth LSC Championship and the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament for the third-straight and 14th overall season. The 15th-ranked and second-seeded Lady Buffs were beaten in Saturday's semifinals, falling to eighth-ranked and third-seeded Emporia State University, 88-82. ESU went on to beat No. 1 Washburn, 61-59, in OT Monday night in the Regional Final, dealing Washburn its first loss in 52 games.

WTAMU's season ends with a 28-4 record, the most wins since 1996-97, having its season-long 13-game winning streak snapped. It was the 19th season under head coach Bob Schneider that the Lady Buffs have reached the 20-win milestone.

Both the WTAMU men's and women's teams won the LSC Championship, marking the first time since WTAMU did it in 1991 that the same school won both conference championships.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Honor Roll.
