WBB NOTES: No. 17 WTAMU Hosts LSC Tournament Semifinals And Final Friday And Saturday in PDF Format
The No. 17 West Texas A&M University Lady Buff basketball team will play host to the 2006 Lone Star Conference Semifinals and Final, Friday and Saturday, March 3-4 at the First United Bank Center (4,800). WTAMU, the top seed from the South, will take on the second-seed from the North, Texas A&M University-Commerce in the semifinals on Friday night at 6 p.m. The second semifinal will begin at 8 p.m. and pits the South's second seed Angelo State University against Texas Woman's University, the fourth seed from the South. Friday's winners will advance to the championship game Saturday night at 7 p.m., with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament next weekend.

WTAMU is 25-3 overall and won its second LSC South title in three years with a 13-1 division ledger, after blasting Tarleton State University, 90-57, last Saturday in a showdown for the division crown. The Lady Buffs advanced to the semi's with a 93-61 rout over the fourth-seed from the North, Cameron University, Tuesday night.
At home this season, the Lady Buffs are unbeaten with a 13-0 record this season and are on a 17-game home winning streak dating back to Feb. 5 of last year, which is the longest home winning streak at the First United Bank Center and is tied for the fourth-longest in school history, matching a streak from Dec. 3, 1994-Feb. 27, 1996. WTAMU has won 18 of its last 20 home games.
The Lady Buffs have reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth-straight season and 19th time in WTAMU head coach Bob Schneider's 25 seasons.
WTAMU is ranked No. 17 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll. The Lady Buffs also is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Rankings, which determine the 8-team field for the South Central Regional Tournament.
Texas A&M-Commerce comes to Canyon as the only North team to make it to the semifinals, making the tournament as the second seed from the North with a 7-5 division record. TAMU-C has a 16-12 overall record and has won three of the last four including edging Tarleton State, 60-59, Tuesday in the quarterfinals. This is the second meeting this season between TAMU-C and WTAMU, as the Lions traveled to Canyon on Dec. 10 and were defeated by the Lady Buffs, 93-75.
Angelo State finished in second place in the LSC South this season with an 11-3 division record and the Rambelles are 21-7 overall and they come in on a three-game winning streak. ASU got to the semifinals with a home win over the third seed from the North, Northeastern State University, 64-52, on Tuesday night. Angelo will be facing Texas Woman's on Friday night for the second time in four games, as ASU defeated TWU, 54-39 on Feb. 22 on the Rambelles' home court. ASU is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA-II South Central Region Rankings - joining WTAMU as the only two regionally ranked teams in the LSC playing this weekend.
Texas Woman's enters the tournament as the fourth seed in the South and the only team in the LSC women's or men's bracket to pull of a quarterfinal upset. Texas Woman's defeated the North number one seed, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, 64-51, on Tuesday at SWOSU. Texas Woman's has played Angelo State twice this season and has lost both meetings.
