WBB NOTES: No. 17 WTAMU Hosts TSU In LSC South Showdown Saturday For Division Title in PDF Format
The No. 17 West Texas A&M University Lady Buff basketball team will play its final Lone Star Conference South Division contest of the season on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the Lady Buffs will host Tarleton State University in a showdown for the LSC South Crown. The winner will claim the division title and the right to host the LSC Tournament March 3-4.
The Lady Buffs will be seeking revenge, as TSU is the only team to beat them this season in LSC South play. The showdown will tip-off at 6 p.m. at the First United Bank Center.
WTAMU is 23-3 overall and 12-1 in LSC South play and has clinched at least a share of the LSC South crown. WTAMU did so on Wednesday night with a 73-58 win at Midwestern State University at Wichita Falls, Texas. The Lady Buffs have a chance to win the LSC South title outright on Saturday with a win over Tarleton State, who has two conference losses and is playing for a share of the South title. A WTAMU loss would force a tie for the division title, and TSU would claim the No. 1 seed and the right to host the LSC Tournament, due to sweeping WTAMU in both meetings.
At home this season, the Lady Buffs are an unbeaten 11-0 and currently on a 15-game home winning streak, dating back to last year. WTAMU has won 16 of its last 18 home games.
The Lady Buffs have reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth-straight season and 19th time in WTAMU head coach Bob Schneider's 25 seasons.
WTAMU is ranked No. 17 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, moving up two spots from last week after winning all three games last week. The Lady Buffs also moved up one spot to No. 2 in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Rankings, which determine the 8-team field for the South Central Regional Tournament.
