West Texas A&M University women's basketball team Carlee Howard was named Lone Star Conference South Division Co-Player of the Week announced today (Feb. 24) by the conference office, following her performance over the weekend in leading the Lady Buffs to a pair of victories, setting a new LSC and school record for single-game 3-pointers and tying WTAMU's school record for single-season 3-pointers.

Howard shares the award with Midwestern State's Meosha Walker, who averaged 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in leading MSU to a pair of important wins over Abilene Christian and Angelo State.

Howard, a 5-5 senior guard from Canyon, Texas, drained a school and conference record 10 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 32 points in then-No. 21 WTAMU's 104-55 win over Texas A&M-Commerce Thursday.

She followed that effort up with four more treys, finishing with 14 points in the Lady Buffs' 95-49 whalloping of Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday.

Howard tied WTAMU's single-season 3-pointers record Saturday, to give her 79 on the season, tying Lori DeShields (1994-95). Thursday night, Howard broke Valeree Valdez' school and LSC record for treys in a game of nine vs. Southwestern Oklahoma, on Dec. 11, 1998.

Howard has drained 25 3-pointers in WTAMU's last four games. She leads the LSC and ranks fifth in the nation for 3-pointer field goals made (79, 3.16 pg) and also leads the conference and ranks ninth in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (.451).

She is a graduate of Canyon High School.

The Lady Buffs are currently 22-3 overall, 10-2 in LSC South action and tied atop the division standings with Eastern New Mexico with two games to play. WTAMU moved up two spots and are now ranked tied for No. 19 in the WBCA Top 25 Poll. The Lady Buffs wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games, opening on Thursday at Abilene, Texas against Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. WTAMU's regular-season finale in on Saturday against No. 17 Angelo State at San Angelo, Texas in a 6 p.m. tip-off.
