Feb. 22, 2006
West Texas A&M University Athletics announced today (Feb. 22) that Wendy's Restaurants will distribute 1,000 tickets for Saturday's basketball doubleheader between West Texas A&M University and Tarleton State University, the top two men's and women's teams in the Lone Star Conference.
Beginning Friday, 500 tickets will be available at the Wendy's location at 34th and Coulter in Amarillo. On Saturday, 500 tickets will be available at Wendy's on 23rd Street and 5th Avenue in Canyon. The purchase of a combo meal is required to receive a free ticket. The tickets are available while they last at each location.
In addition, 10% of all sales from each restaurant will benefit WTAMU Athletics.
"This is another example of one of our outstanding corporate partners stepping up and making our big games available to fans in Canyon and Amarillo. Wendy's has been a terrific supporter through the years and we appreciate their commitment to the University," WTAMU Director of Athletics Ed Harris said.
The 17th-ranked Lady Buffs (22-3 overall, 11-1 in LSC South) take on the TexAnns (18-7, 10-2) at 6 p.m. at the First United Bank Center. The winner will capture the LSC South title and will likely host the Women's LSC Championship Tournament next weekend.
The 6th-ranked Texans (21-4, 10-0) face off against the Buffs (19-6, 8-2) at 8 p.m. TSU has NCAA-II and LSC Tournament spots secured. WTAMU is assured of an LSC Tournament berth but is still seeking a slot in the NCAA-II Tournament, currently ranked eighth in the rankings that determine the 8-team field for the NCAA-II Regional Tournament.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, and additional tickets will be available for purchase at the gate, or fans can contact the WTAMU Athletics Office at 806-651-4424.
The Lady Buffs will be hosting a first-round LSC Tournament game on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and the Buffs can secure a first-round home game with a win Wednesday night at Midwestern State University. Tickets for those games will be on sale after halftime of the men's game on Saturday.
