CANYON, Texas - Winners of 10 in a row, the No. 7 West Texas A&M women's basketball team will close out its regular season this week, with a trip to Tarleton State on Wednesday, while hosting Midwestern State on Saturday at the First United Bank Center. Both games will tip-off at 6 p.m. During the winning streak, WTAMU has won all but one of its games by double digits. The only win that was not in double figures came on Jan. 17 at Angelo State, which was a 72-71 come from behind victory. The win versus Angelo sparked the current 10 game winning streak. To achieve the season long winning streak, WTAMU defeated Angelo State last Wednesday at home, 67-54. On Saturday, the Lady Buffs traveled to Abilene Christian, where they stampeded the Wildcats 80-64. During last week's victories, WTAMU was led by sophomore Emily Brister, who averaged 24 points, while classmate Courtney Lee scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game. Wednesday's foe, Tarleton, has won six of its last seven ball games, with the one hiccup coming at Abilene Christian on Feb. 10. The TexAnns are 10-1 this season at home, the lone loss coming against Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 4. TSU is led by Katie Crawford, who averages 12.2 points a game, while Krystal Cole chips in 11.5 points. The TexAnns have all but clinched the second position in the LSC South, as they are two games in front Angelo and Abilene with only two games remaning. Midwestern State comes into Saturday's game in a fight for the fourth spot in the LSC South, as it remains a game back from Angelo and Abilene. MSU has won three of five, and is led by Sonya Courtney, who scores 14.3 points a game. Saturday's game will mark the end of the $5,000 promotion for students, and it will also be Senior Day for Jennifer Brock, Kara Pridey, Alicia Saunders and Natalie Wheeler. The LSC Tournament opponent for WTAMU is yet to be determined, as Northeastern State and East Central are in dog fight for the final spot in the LSC North. The Lady Buffs defeated Northeastern back on Jan. 6, while the East Central game was cancelled due to weather.
