WBB NOTES: No. 17 Lady Buffs Face Mustangs Wednesday; Can Claim Share Of LSC South Crown With Win in PDF Format
The No. 17 West Texas A&M University Lady Buff basketball team heads back on the road this week for their final Lone Star Conference South Division road contest of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 22, when the Lady Buffs travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Midwestern State University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at MSU's Stockton Court at Ligon Coliseum, with the men's game following.
WTAMU is 22-3 overall and 11-1 in LSC South play and is currently sitting solo in first place in the LSC South standings and can clinch a share of the division crown with a win Wednesday. WTAMU they defeated Angelo State University, 70-61, on Saturday night. ASU was tied for second place at the time. Tarleton State University won on Saturday and remained in second place as the Lady Buffs will have a showdown with the TexAnns on Saturday, Feb. 25 to decide the division title and the right to host the LSC Tournament.
The Lady Buffs have reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth-straight season and 19th time in WTAMU head coach Bob Schneider's 25 seasons.
WTAMU is ranked No. 17 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, moving up two spots from last week after winning all three games last week. The Lady Buffs also moved up one spot to No. 2 in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Rankings, which determine the 8-team field for the South Central Regional Tournament.
Junior forward Alicia Saunders needs two blocked shots to become the WTAMU single-season blocked shots record holder, as she currently has 98 rejections, trailing WTAMU All-American Brandi Green's 99 rejections in 1998-'99.
