West Texas A&M Basketball Offers Take a Kid to the Game Day
Feb. 3, 2004
The West Texas A&M Buffs & Lady Buffs are proud to announce that they will host Take a Kid to the Game Day on Saturday, February 14, 2004, at the WTAMU Event Center for a doubleheader against Lone Star Conference opponent Midwestern State University. Tip off for the women's game is 6:00 p.m. and the men will start at 8:00 p.m. Any child under the age of 13 will be admitted free to the contest with the purchase of a discounted adult general admission ticket ($4).
The TAKG program is entering its ninth year for women's NCAA Basketball and its sixth year for men's NCAA Basketball. The program is a coordinated effort between the NCAA Basketball, Host Communications, Inc., the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Take a Kid to the Game works by introducing the youth of America to all the thrills and excitement of the in-person college basketball experience. TAKG is a nationwide, grassroots effort that encourages adults to take a child to see a collegiate basketball game. The TAKG serves two purposes on campus; community outreach and increased attendance. During the 2002-03 season, approximately 373 women's basketball programs and 324 men's basketball programs participated in the TAKG program.
The event will mark the first time that West Texas A&M basketball has offered TAKG day during the winter season. Local youth teams from the area are encouraged to be a part of the event.
"This is a wonderful opportunity and event for young people to experience the fun of college basketball," men's head coach Rick Cooper said. "We hope that many people will take the time to bring a young person to the game."
