Adams Named LSC South Player of the Week
Feb. 2, 2004
West Texas A&M University women's basketball team member Vasha Adams was named Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Week following her performance over the weekend in leading the Lady Buffs to a pair of victories, announced today (Feb. 2) by the conference office.
Adams, a 6-1 junior forward from Georgetown, West Indies, had career-highs in three departments, helping WTAMU to two wins in the week, as the Lady Buffs ran their win streak to 12 in a row and 16 of their last 17, running their home win streak to nine-straight in the process.
In WTAMU's 57-55 upset victory over ASU Thursday, Adams had 10 points and a career-high six blocked shots, including two in the final five seconds as the Lady Buffs held off an ASU frenzy to upset the nationally-ranked Rambelles for the second-straight year at home, knocking off then-No. 7 ASU last year.
In Saturday's 68-64 win over ACU, Adams had a career-high 21 points and a career-high seven steals as the Lady Buffs beat the Wildcats for the first time ever at the WTAMU Event Center, as ACU had won the previous two contests, including a win in the first-ever game at the facility on Jan. 26, 2002.
Adams leads the LSC with a 2.89 spg average, equalling her jersey number with 55 swipes. She adds 10.1 ppg, plus a team-leading 6.4 rpg and 1.26 bpg, ranking 14th in the conference in rebounding and fifth in blocked shots.
Adams joined the Lady Buffs from Clarendon College.
She is the second WTAMU player to receive LSC South Player of the Week honors this season, as senior guard Carlee Howard garnered the accolade on Jan. 11.
The Lady Buffs are currently 17-2 overall, 5-1 in LSC South action, entering Thursday's divisional road contest against Texas Woman's University at Denton, Texas.
