Harris Leads Lady Buffs To 59-52 Victory Over Millersville Tuesday

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The West Texas A&M University women's basketball team used 14 second-half points from junior forward Tywanda Harris to pull away from Millersville University, 59-52, Tuesday at the Western New Mexico University Mustang Classic, held at Phoenix, Ariz.
Harris ended the game with 17 points, while fellow junior forward Celeste Stevenson posted 14 points and senior guard Carlee Howard netted 11 points on three 3-pointers. Harris had a double-double on the night as she pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
WTAMU pulled away from an early 7-7 tie with an 11-0 run and never looked back. The Lady Buffs led 30-23 at half and opened their biggest lead of the game at 57-42 with 3:47 to play.
Stevenson and junior guard Stephanie Williams were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Buffs capped a successful two days, as they won the Classic with a pair of wins, after defeating Fort Lewis, 62-60 on Monday.
Millersville, which evens its record at 5-5, was led by Destinne Parker-Stewart's 18 points, followed by 11 points from Joni Mertz.
WTAMU improves to 7-2 on the year, having won six of the last seven games. The Lady Buffs return home this Saturday, Jan. 3, hosting East Central University in a Lone Star Conference crossover doubleheader with the men's team. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. WTAMU continues its homestand on Monday, Jan. 5 by hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
