CANYON, Texas - Led by sophomore Emily Brister's (Amarillo, Texas) team-high 24 points, the West Texas A&M women's basketball team was victorious Monday night over New Mexico Highlands, 95-56.

The WTAMU defense once again stepped up, as it held New Mexico Highlands scoreless for the game's first seven minutes and out rebounded the Cowgirls, 36-32. Individually for the Lady Buffs, senior Kara Pridey (Salina, Kansas) cleaned up on the glass, pulling down game-high 14 rebounds.

Offensively for WTAMU, junior Jenessa McKray (Sandy, Utah) was second on the team with a season-high 16 points, followed up by sophomore Mariah Willis (Odessa, Texas), who chipped in with 14 and freshman Holly Isaacs (Brownsfield, Texas) scored a career-high 12 points, all coming in the second half. Rounding out double digit scoring was sophomore Courtney Lee (Arlington, Texas), who scored 10 points.

Offensively as a team, WTAMU was 37-of-61 from the field for 60 percent, 12-of-17 from three point range and nine-for-11 from the free throw line.

WTAMU improves to 5-1 on the season, while New Mexico Highlands falls to 0-4. The Lady Buffs will be back in action Thursday against Cameron at 6 p.m. in First United Bank Center.
