CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M Lady Buff basketball team opened home competition at the First United Bank Center by holding New Mexico Highlands scoreless in the first half as they rolled to an 89-24 victory in the Coca-Cola Thanksgiving Shootout presented by Holiday Inn. Junior guard Emily Brister led WT with 23 points and four steals while fellow junior guard Chelsea Blackshear tallied 17 points, including shooting 4-for-4 from the three-point line.

The Lady Buffs capitalized on 22 NMHU turnovers in the first half, scoring 25 points off of giveaways by the Cowgirls. Blackshear notched 12 points in the half while Brister, junior Courtney Lee and junior Jamie Dreiling each scored eight.

Lee finished the game with 10 points and three rebounds while Dreiling had 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Freshman Joni Unruh and sophomore Ashley Dyer played aggressive defense for WT as they combined for 15 total rebounds. A local product from Amarillo, Texas, Unruh grabbed five in the first half and finished with a team-high of eight while Dyer pulled down seven. Unruh also added seven points, shooting 2-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Cowgirls got their offense going as Veronica Lerma tallied 10 points and Rosalyn Wilson and Ashley Moore each scored four. But the Lady Buffs' lead was too much to overcome as the WT continued to dominate the game.

Brister came on strong in the second half, shooting 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She also sank one shot from behind the arc.

Sophomore Holly Isaacs and junior Dixie Bell played solidly on both sides of the ball; Isaacs tallied nine points, three rebounds and three steals while Bell pulled down seven rebounds and scored six points for the Lady Buffs.
