WT Women's Basketball Opens Regular Season With 96-48 Win Over Huston-Tillotson
Nov. 16, 2008
CANYON, Texas - The Lady Buffs recorded their first win of the regular season against the Huston-Tillotson Rams today at the First United Bank Center by a score of 96-48. WT's Emily Brister (senior, guard, Amarillo, Texas) led the team in scoring, tallying 27 points. "We finally have some big targets underneath the basket and it helps a lot," said head coach Krista Gerlich. "We let them have a lot of offensive rebounds and we gave up some turnovers, but we responded well and got to see a lot of different looks and a lot of different line-ups." The Lady Buffs shot 54% from the field, scoring on 34-of-63 attempts. The team tallied 42 total rebounds, led by Jamie Dreiling (senior, forward, Lake Kiowa, Texas), recording 10 offensive and defensive boards. Dreiling also contributed 17 points. Courtney Lee (senior, guard, Arlington, Texas) was 6-of-10 in the field, 1-of-2 from behind the arc, and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. She also contributed seven rebounds. The Lady Buffs bench was also active, with Cherilyn McMenamy (sophomore, forward, Canyon, Texas) tallying 14 points and KeKe Hairston (junior, center, Bay Point, Calif.) with 10 points. "KeKe had great touch and good hands today," Gerlich said. "I see her getting better and better as the year goes on. When we get Ceciley (Johnson) back, we'll add another athletic body. We just can't get in foul trouble." The Lady Buffs travel to Alamosa, Colo., for the Adams State Bankers Tournament on Nov. 21 and 22. They return to the First United Bank Center for the Buff and Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 28 and 29.
