TOPEKA, Kan. -- The 15th ranked and second-seeded West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs' season came to an end Saturday evening in the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament Semifinal, falling to No. 8 and third-seeded Emporia State University, 88-82, at Topeka, Kan., hosted by Washburn University at Lee Arena. WTAMU ends with a 28-4 record, the most wins since 1996-97, having its season-long 13-game winning streak snapped.

ESU is coached by WTAMU head coach Bob Schneider's son, Brandon, who now leads the family feud series, 4-1.

All five Lady Buff starters netted double-digits, led by 18 points from freshman guard Emily Brister, while senior forward Keisha Monroe netted 16 points in her final game in a WTAMU uniform.

Junior guard/forward Natalie Wheeler tallied 15 points, including 11 in the first half, whle junior guard Jennifer Brock netted 13 points and junior forward Alicia Saunders logged her 11th double-double of the year, including two in a row and three in the last four games, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Brock dished out a game-high nine assists, and set a new WTAMU single-season assists record, as she ends the season with 222 helpers.

Brister swiped a game-high eight steals, giving her 132 swipes on the year and tying a Lady Buff single-season record, joining Josephine Longoria's 132 steals in 1990-91.

ESU was paced by a whopping 41 points from Michelle Stueve, including 21 in the first half, for a new career-high, one night after netting 39 in ESU's win over Tarleton State in the Quarterfinals.

 

 

Denisa Svarova added 22 points Saturday night, matching her career-high, and tied Stueve for team-high honors with nine rebounds each, leading ESU to a 42-39 rebounding advantage.
