Box Score

For the second straight season, the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs reign supreme over the Lone Star Conference South Division, as the No. 8 Lady Buffs secured the divisional title on Wednesday night by defeating the Angelo State Rambelles. 67-54, at the First United Bank Center.

The victory is the ninth in a row for the Lady Buffs and improves their overall record to 22-3 while keeping their LSC South mark spotless at 11-0. Angelo State, meanwhile, falls to 13-10 on the year and 5-6 in league action.

West Texas A&M got impressive individual efforts on the night from sophomores Emily Brister and Courtney Lee. Brister was the game's top scorer on the night with 17 points, doing much of her damage from the free throw line where she was 8-of-10. Lee narrowly missed the first double-double of her career, connecting on 7-of-14 field goals to finish play with 15 points in addition to eight rebounds.

The teams traded spars during the game's early goings, exchanging a pair of field goals by each side including three pointers by Lee and ASU's Britinee Davis.

Lee would add another field goal to give her five early points, but Angelo State would hold at 11-9 advantage on the scoreboard at the 15:14 mark of the first half, thanks primarily to the Rambelles' hot shooting early on as they made four of their first five attempts from the field.

Coming out of the first media timeout, it was Lady Buffs leading scorer Emily Brister who began to assert herself in the game, tying the game with a lay-up at the 13:48 mark and giving WTAMU their first lead of the contest at 14-13 by converting a three-point play with her first free throw of the night just a few possessions later. The Amarillo, Texas, native made her presence known on the defensive end as well collecting her first of three blocks on the night during the following ASU possession.

The strong play would be the backbone of an 11-4 WTAMU run that would force ASU's first timeout of the contest at the 9:13 mark with the Lady Buffs leading 20-15. WTAMU would continue the run with a basket out of the break give the Lady Buffs the advantage at 22-15.

The first half would close with the Lady Buffs holding a 37-27 advantage. Brister and Lee did much of the damage for the WTAMU attack tallying six rebounds apiece and combining for 24 points, with Brister leading all payers with 13 points.

During the second half, the Lady Buffs got a balanced scoring attack and were led by senior point guard Jennifer Brock, who paced the squad with seven points.

For the game, WTAMU shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the field compared to only 31 percent (18-of-58) for the Rambelles. The Lady Buffs also enjoyed a 41-37 advantage in the rebounding column.

West Texas A&M women's basketball is back in action this weekend as they travel to Abliene, Texas, to face ACU in a 9 p.m. contest.
