Baker's Dozen: No. 19 WTAMU Wins 13th In A Row Over TWU Thursday With 73-59 Win

DENTON, Texas --- The 19th-ranked West Texas A&M University Lady Buff basketball team captured its 13th-straight win over Texas Woman's University, Thursday night at Denton, Texas, by a 73-59 score at TWU's Kitty Magee Arena. With the win, WTAMU remains in first-place in the Lone Star Conference South Division with an 8-1 division mark. The Lady Buffs have now won four in a row and have a 19-3 overall ledger.
WTAMU now leads the all-time series with TWU, 34-3, after completing the season-sweep, as the Lady Buffs beat the Pioneers, 87-63, last Thursday.
TWU lost for the fourth time in the last five games, and are now 11-10 overall and 4-5 in LSC South action.
WTAMU had three players in double-digits, led by junior guard/forward Natalie Wheeler's 18 points, as she drained a career-high four 3-pointers. Freshman guard Emily Brister netted 15 points, to go with a team-high tying eight rebounds and a game-high tying four steals, while junior guard Jennifer Brock tossed in 11 points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Junior forward Alicia Saunders had five blocks and snared a team-high tying eight rebounds, helping WTAMU to a 40-33 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Buffs also got a boost in the return of senior forward Keisha Monroe to the lineup, as she saw her first action since suffering a knee injury on Jan. 12 against Southeastern Oklahoma State University, missing the last eight games.
TWU was led by Courtney Colmer's 22 points, while Margaret Wimbish logged a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Buffs hit a season-high 94.1 percent (16-of-17) at the free throw line, as well as hitting 7-of17 (.412) 3-pointers, their second-most of the season. From the field, WTAMU hit 25-of-60 (.417).
The Pioneers hit 17-of-53 (.321) from the field, including 8-of-18 (.444) from behind the 3-point arc. TWU hit 17-of-21 (.810) at the charity stripe.
WTAMU heads to Kingsville, Texas to take on Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
