WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Senior Kara Pridey narrowly missed her first double-double of the season, ending play with 11 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Emily Brister contributed 22 points as the No. 13 West Texas A&M women's basketball team picked up a 81-61 road victory over Midwestern State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday night.

Both teams got off to a slow start during the Lone Star Conference South Division match-up, as the two squads combined to miss their first five shots from the floor. The home-standing Mustangs were able find their shot soon after, allowing them to jump out to a 4-0 advantage, but Brister and the Lady Buffs' slow start would not last for long. The sophomore guard from Amarillo jump started WTAMU as she picked up her game on both ends of the court, connecting on four of her first five field goal attempts as the Lady Buffs used a 11-0 run to build a 13-6 lead.

The lead swelled to as much as 16 during the period aided by the Lady Buff defense which was solid during the opening half, forcing 11 MSU turnovers while also collecting six blocks. After 20 minutes of play, the Buffs took a 40-29 advantage into the locker room with Brister leading all scorers with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Pridey was extremely active during the first half, pulling down six rebounds, including three in the Lady Buffs' offensive end.

Following the resumption of play, MSU's Andrea Buben led a Mustang comeback by converting three point field goals on back-to-back possessions with just over 12 minutes to play. The swing cut the Lady Buff advantage, which had grown to as much as 17 during the second frame's early goings, to just 11 points.

That would be as close as the Mustangs would get as the Lady Buffs responded to finish the game strong and improve their record away from Canyon to 5-3 on the year.

Senior point guard Jennifer Brock's strong play on the night also left her close to a basketball rarity, a triple-double. The Abernathy, Texas, native ended play with nine points, eight rebounds and eight assists on the stat sheet.

Brock and Pridey were also forces on the defensive end of the court as well, collecting four steals apiece, while Brister tallied a career-high four blocks, three of which came during the game's first half.

Senior Natalie Wheeler and sophomore Mariah Willis rounded out the WTAMU players in double-figure scoring, contributing 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The victory ensures that the Lady Buffs will remain atop the Lone Star Conference South Division standings with a perfect 6-0 league mark to go along with the team's impressive 17-3 overall mark on the year. Midwestern State, meanwhile, sees its overall record drop to 9-9 and its league mark fall to 2-4.

The road swing for the Lady Buffs continues next week as the team travels south to battle Texas A&M-Kingsville in a 6 p.m. match up at Kleberg Bank Court.
