WTAMU Runs Win Streak To Four As Lady Buffs Pull Away From SOSU, 77-58, Monday

The West Texas A&M University women's basketball team used a 17-2 surge over a span of under six minutes to pull away for a 77-58 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State University in a Lone Star Conference crossover game Monday at the WTAMU Event Center. It was the Lady Buffs' fourth-straight victory and eighth in their last nine games.
WTAMU had a 43-31 haltime lead, with a margin of as much as 16 on three different occasions. SOSU closed the second-half gap to 46-39 just three minutes into the second-half, before the Lady Buffs shifted gears and went full spead ahead and coasted to the second-straight victory over the Lady Savages in as many seasons, and improved to 7-4 all-time vs. SOSU.
Junior forward Celeste Stevenson posted game highs with 17 points and nine rebounds, followed by 15 points and eight rebounds from fellow junior forward Vasha Adams. Senior guard Carlee Howard chipped in 13 points for WTAMU which improved to 9-2 on the season.
The Lady Savages were led by Nikki Yager's 12 points off the bench. Former WTAMU player Lauren Martin, as well as Jessica Hocker added 10 points apiece for SOSU, which has now lost three of its last four and falls to 2-8 on the year.
Adams gave the Lady Buffs their largest lead of the game at 76-50 with a layup at the 3:36 mark.
WTAMU shot a chilly 33.8 percent (25-74) from the field, while SOSU shot 44.7 percent (21-47). However, the Lady Buffs held a commanding 50-35 edge on the glass, including registering 26 on the offensive end. The WTAMU defense also forced 27 SOSU turnovers.
The Lady Buffs hit the road for a pair of LSC crossover games, opening on Thursday, Jan. 8 at Weatherford, Okla. against Southwestern Oklahoma State University in a 6 p.m. contest. WTAMU continues its road trip on Saturday, Jan. 10 against Cameron University at Lawton, Okla., in a 2 p.m. game.
