The West Texas A&M University men's and women's cross country teams travel to Portales, N.M., on Saturday, October 25th to compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships, hosted by Eastern New Mexico University.

The meet will be held at the Portales Country Club. The women will begin their six kilometer trek at 9 a.m., and the gun sounds for the men's eight kilometers race at 9:30 a.m. The top 10 finishers in each race will be named All-Conference.

Abilene Christian is favored to win both the men's and the women's races. ACU's women have won the last two titles and have captured 11 overall, while the Wildcat men have won 12-straight titles and 18 overall.

The WTAMU men will have seven runners competing: sophomore Jeremy Albers, junior Santiago Bustillos, sophomore Eduardo Hernandez, junior Carmelo Morales, senior Wayland Moses, senior J.D. Parker and sophomore Adam Penn.

The last race WTAMU ran in was October 18th at Levelland, Texas where the Buffs placed second and Santiago Bustillos was the top WTAMU runner, finishing second.

The women will have four runners competing: senior Jami Hutcherson, sophomore Danette Ramaekers, and freshmen Erica Gerber and Teri Ramaekers.

The Lady Buffs competed in the ASU Classic on October 14, where they finished third as a team and Jami Hutcherson finished 12th out of 30 women runners.

If the Buffs and Lady Buffs place well in the LSC Meet this Saturday, they may have a chance to compete at the NCAA-II South Central Regional Meet on November 8th at Commerce, Texas.
