WTAMU Finishes Season At LSC Meet In Seventh And 11th

The West Texas A&M University men's and women's cross country team competed in the most important meet of the year, the Lone Star Conference Championships, held at the Portales Country Club, at Portales, N.M. Saturday. The men finished in seventh out of eight teams while the women finished 11th out of 11 teams because they did not have enough runners to enter into the team competition.
Abilene Christian University's Yuliya Stshkiv won the six kilometer race with a time of 22:48.8 followed in second and third by teammates Justine Nahimana and Abbie Waters.
WTAMU's top runner on the women's side was senior Jami Hutcherson who finished 24th out of 66 runners with a race time of 25:41.5. She was followed by Erica Gerber in 56th, Danette Ramaekers in 60th, and Teri Ramaekers in 63th.
The Lady Buffs finished in 11th is because they were unable to field a full team (five players) to be able to compete in the team competition.
Top runner in the men's eight kilometer race was ACU's Bernard Manirakiza with a time of 25:03.2.
The Wildcats won both team race with a total of 33 points for the women making it their third straight title and 12th overall. While the men finished with 36 points for the men winning their 13th straight title and 19th overall.
Junior Santiago Bustillos was the Buffs top runner finishing the season 15th out of 53 runners with a race time of 27:26.2. He was followed by Carmelo Morales in 29th, Adam Penn in 38th, Eduardo Hernandez in 39th, Jo Parker in 47th, Jeremy Albers in 50th, and Wayland Moses in 53rd.
The top ten runners in each race earned All-Conference honors.
