West Texas A&M Places Sixth at Lone Star Conference Championships

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M Buffaloes' cross country team finished sixth at the 2009 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, totaling 144 points. The event was hosted by WTAMU Saturday morning at the WTAMU Horse Center in Canyon, Texas. Abilene Christian's Amos Sang took top individual honors, covering the 8,000-meter course in 24:44.0. He was followed by teammate Cleophas Tanuiu (25:21.0), with Cameron's Julius Krir in third, overall, with a time of 25:47.0. Abilene Christian also took top team honors, with 33 points, followed by Tarleton State (75) and Eastern New Mexico (109). Cameron (118) and Angelo State (128) rounded out the top five teams. WT placed sixth with 144 points, outpacing seventh-place Texas A&M-Commerce (152). The Buffs were led by Joey Villareal (Fr., Amarillo, Texas) who finished 17th with a time of 26:57.0. He was followed by Andrew Striley (Soph., Amarillo, Texas), with a time of 27:14.0, in 26th, Thomas Harris (Jr., Amarillo, Texas) in 27th with a time of 27:18.0 and Rolando Vasquez (Jr., Altus, Okla.), who placed 28th with a time of 27:31.0. Jarred Murray (Soph., Odessa, Texas) placed 46th with a time of 28:37.0, Jarret Kachel (Sr., Hooker, Okla.) finished 51st with a time of 28:59.0 and Michael Janousek (Fr., Conroe, Texas) rounded out the Buff scoring, placing 53rd with a time of 29:12.0.
The Buffs' next outing will be at the NCAA South Central Regionals, held Saturday, November 7 in Abilene, Texas. |
