Buff CC Places Third at ACU's Naimadu Classic

ABILENE, Texas - The West Texas A&M men's cross country team tallied 64 total points to take third place at the Naimadu Classic held on the campus of Abilene Christian University on Saturday morning.

"The high level of competition definitely pushed our guys to solid efforts today.We finished behind two nationally ranked teams" said WT head coach Paul Sweetgall "Everyone enjoyed running on as shorter course and I'm very pleased with our fitness level at this stage of the season."

Leading the way for the Buffs was Rolando Vasquez (JR, Altus, Okla.) with an eighth place finish and a time of 20:28. Next for WT was Thomas Harris (JR, Amarillo, Texas) in 14th place with a time of 20:46 followed by Andrew Striley (SO, Amarillo, Texas) in 15th with a 20:50.

Joey Villarreal (FR, Amarillo, Texas) finished in 19th place with a 20:58 followed by Michael Janousek (FR, Conroe, Texas) in 25th with a 21:39. Fellow runners Jarret Kachel (SR, Hooker, Okla.) followed with a 21:59 and Jarred Murray (SO, Odessa, Texas) with a time of 22:02 in 27th and 28th place respectively. Also running for the Buffs but not tallying points was Robbie Ness (FR, Canyon, Texas) with a time of 22:25 in 30th place.

"We now have two weeks to prepare for the LSC meet on our home course" said Sweetgall.


 

 

The Buff's are set to host the Lathrop Memorial High School Meet on Oct. 17 before competing in the Lone Star Conference Championship meet on the campus of West Texas A&M on Oct. 24 starting at 10:15 a.m.
