Buffs Place 13th at Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Oklahoma - The West Texas A&M men's cross country team placed 13th overall out of 28 schools competing in the Cowboy Jamboree held on the campus of Oklahoma State University on Saturday morning. "We had a decent day" said WT head coach Paul Sweetgall "Our optimistic goal was to have four runners have a time under 27:00 and we came close to that." Joey Villarreal (FR, Amarillo, Texas) led the Buffs with a 46th place finish and a time of 26:55 on the 8K run. Teammates Andrew Striley (So, Amarillo, Texas) and Rolando Vasquez (JR, Altus, Okla.) were the next WT runners placing in 56th and 57th with times of 27:05 and 27:06 respectively. Thomas Harris (JR, Amarillo, Texas) recorded a time of 27:16 for a 69th place finish followed by Michael Janousek (FR, Conroe, Texas) in 145th with a time of 28:47. Fellow WT runners Robbie Ness (FR, Canyon, Texas) finished with a time of 28:49, Jarrett Kachel (SR, Moore, Okla.) finished with a time of 28:56 followed by Jarred Murray (SO, Odessa, Texas) with a time of 29:21. "The important thing is that we're improving each meet we run." said Sweetgall "This was a tough course, and everyone improved their times from our race at Texas Tech two weeks ago."
The Buffs will travel to Abilene, Texas on Oct. 10 for the ACU Naimadu Classic on the campus of Abilene Christian, the meet is scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m. CT. |
