Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Participate at the Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. - Both the West Texas A&M men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday morning at one of the country's most prestigious cross country meets, the Cowboys Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State. The Lady Buffs finished in eighth place as a team and ended the day as the third highest of several Lone Star Conference teams participating at the event. Angelo State took top overall honors in the College/Junior College division of the race, while Tarleton State posted a sixth place performance. Junior Jisel Bailon paced WTAMU with a time 19:52 good enough for 24th place, just seconds in front of freshman Kristie Hartsfield, who finished in 34th place with a race of 20:09. In the next wave of racers, senior Ruby Crox and junior Bridget Garza finished in 52nd and 60th places, respectively, with races of 20:39 and 20:46. Freshman Sierra Manning ended in 88th place with a time of 21:21 and sophomore Belinda Castanon completed the Lady Buff contingency in 91st place with a time of 21:28. On the men's side of the event, sophomore Jose Velasquez posted the best time of the day for the Buffs, ending in 55th place with a time of 28:07. The next WTAMU runner to cross the finish line was junior Tyson McGuire who came in 91st place with a time of 29:19. Completing the Buffs' showing at Saturday's meet was Joey Sanchez and Jase Patrick who ended the day in 115th place and 118th place, respectively, with times of 30:10 and 30:12.
