LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- The West Texas A&M University men's cross country team finished tied for fifth out of six teams at the New Mexico Highlands University Invitational at Las Vegas, N.M.

WTAMU tied South Plains College with 144 points. Eastern New Mexico University took top honors with 43 points. Individually, David Kemei from Deni' broke the tape first with a 23:55.

Freshman Jose Velasquez was WTAMU's top runner, finishing 21st with a time of 27:51 over the 8K course. Junior Victor Duran was 34th with a 28:29, while freshman Billy Emert finished 44th with a 31:05. Junior Ryne Erickson finished 48th with a 33:12, one place ahead of freshman Daniel Loya, who was 49th with a 33:30.

WTAMU will travel to Stillwater, Okla., this Saturday, Oct. 1, to compete in the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree, with the men's college division race starting at 8:30 a.m.
