LUBBOCK, Texas - The West Texas A&M men's cross country team finished in seventh place at the Texas Tech Invitational held in Lubbock, Texas. The Buffs finished the 8K meet with 162 points to take seventh place out of 12 schools.

"I'm very proud of the effort we gave today" said WT head coach Paul Sweetgall "The course was tough and we were up against a lot of good teams and we held our own. We worked well as a team and are looking forward to the Oklahoma State Jamboree in two weeks."

Host Texas Tech took the win with 38 points followed by South Plains College with 84 to take second, LSC rival Eastern New Mexico finished third with 100 total points.

Joey Villarreal (FR, Amarillo, Texas) led the effort for the Buffs with a time of 26:55 finishing in 22nd place. Teammate Thomas Harris (JR, Amarillo, Texas) finished 26th with a time of 27:19 followed closely by Andrew Striley (SO, Amarillo, Texas) in 29th with a time of 27:23.

Also wracking up points for WT were Michael Janousek (FR, Conroe, Texas) in 60th place with a 28:54, Jarrett Kachel (SR, Hooker, Okla.) in 66th with a 29:10 followed closely by Robbie Ness (FR, Canyon, Texas) in 67th with a 29:14. Rolando Vasquez (JR, Altus, Okla.) finished 72nd with a 29:30.

Also running for the Buffs but not tallying points was Jared Murray (SO, Odessa, Texas) who finished in 82nd with a 29:58.

 

 

"I'm really happy with our effort" said Sweetgall "We trained through this meet to get ready for the OSU meet in a few weeks, and our guys did a great job of overcoming a hard week of training to run well."

The Buffs travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma on Oct. 3 to take part in the OSU Cowboy Jamboree.
