LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The West Texas A&M University men's cross country team finished ninth at the New Mexico State University Kachina Classic at the NMSU Golf Course at Las Cruces, N.M.

WTAMU finished with 266 points to finish ninth in the 10-team field, which included three Division I teams. The University of Texas-El Paso took the top four individual places and finished with 19 points.

Freshman Jose Velasquez was WTAMU's top runner, finishing in 39th with a 26:05 time over the 7,400 meter course. Junior Victor Duran was 53rd with a 26:54, freshman Billy Emert finished 63rd with a 28:38, just ahead of junior Ryne Erickson at 66th with a 29:42. Freshman Daniel Loya was 70th with a 30:46.

The Buffs' next competition is on Sept. 24 at the New Mexico Highlands Invite in Las Vegas, N.M.
