WT Post Strong Results at Kansas State All-Comers Meet
Dec. 13, 2009
Manhattan, Kan. – The West Texas A&M track and field team opened its 2009-10 indoor season with strong showings from several Buffaloes at the Kansas State All-Comers Meet. The meet was slightly affected by the low light in Ahearn Field House, caused by a power outage over much of K-State's campus. “I was extremely proud of how our guys fought,” said WT head coach Darren Flowers. “There was some very big competition this week and our guys were not intimidated. “The highlight of the day was our men’s 4x400m relay finishing second to Kansas State,” Flowers continued. “We had to fill in some spots on the relay due to injury, so to come away with a second-place finish is a sign of our depth on the men’s side. We definitely have a long way to go to be where we ultimately want to be, but I am hopeful, based on what I saw today. We’ve worked extremely hard this fall and we will continue to work over the winter break so that we are ready to roll in January.” As mentioned, the WT 4x400m Relay Team, consisting of Xavier Bennett, Josh Braddock, Andrew Sanders and Taylor Johnson placed second to Kansas State’s ‘A’ team, with a time of 3:25.00. Other top performances included Jarret Kachel placing sixth in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:33.62. In doing so, he placed second among Division II competitors.
Rolando Vasquez placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:28.73, while Justin Reeves clocked an 8.42 in the 60m hurdles, finishing first among Division II competitors. The Buffs next outing will come Jan. 16, when they compete in the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. |
