Lubbock, Texas - The West Texas A&M Track & Field program competed this past weekend at the Texas Tech Classic, held at the Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Highlighting the Buffs' outing was Dane Hamrick's fifth-place finish in the shot put. Hamrick's mark of 49-03.50 was not only a personal collegiate best for him, but was also nearly three-feet better than his previous best of 46-04.75.

Also noteworthy were the performances of Ross Myatt in the 55 meter hurdles and Caleb Randolph in the 60 meter dash. Myatt clocked an 8.23 in his qualifying heat to advance to the finals, where he posted a time of 8.19. Randolph also qualified for the finals in his event, recording times of 6.61 to advance and 6.62 in the final round.

"Again, we have continued to improve on our previous efforts," said WT head coach Darren Flowers. "With the exception of one athlete, everyone who competed this weekend improved on their previous best time or mark. That is what we are striving for."

In addition to Hamrick's fifth-place effort in the shot, Cameron Armstrong recorded a distance of 43-02.50, while Esteban Montemayor had a 41.08-50.

In the high jump, Gage Mayer placed eighth with a mark of 6-04.25.

Jarret Kachel clocked a 1:18.12 in the 600 meter run, while Aaron Hibbitts ran a 3:03.55 in the men's 1,000 meters.

All three Buff competitors in the 3,000 meters had fine performances, with Thomas Harris placing fifth with a time of 9:33.86, Jose Velazquez sixth (9:37.77 and Andrew Striley ninth (9:42.62).

On the women's side, Mariana Chavira placed 12th in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 11:56.41.
