West Texas A&M Track & Field Program Competes at New Mexico Invitational

Albuquerque, N.M. – The West Texas A&M Track & Field program competed this past weekend at the New Mexico Invitational, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Highlights for the Buffaloes included Ross Myatt’s performance in the 60 meter hurdles, as well as the efforts of shot putter Dane Hamrick “For the most part, we improved our times and distances from our first competition,” said WT head coach Darren Flowers. “That is our goal; to improve every time we compete. We are facing a lot of all-America-caliber competition, as well as a lot of Division I competition. We want to get our competitiveness to where, once LSC competition begins, we are ready to take that step.” Ross Myatt advanced to the finals of the 60 meter hurdles. He clocked an 8.74 in his prelim heat and placed sixth in the finals with a time of 8.75. Amarillo High product Dane Hamrick placed fifth in the shot put with an effort of 46-02.50, while teammates Esteba Montemayor (41-03.25) and Cameron Armstrong (38-07.75) placed seventh and eighth, respectively. In the 400 meters, Josh Braddock ran a 51.39, while Jarrett Kachel clocked a 2:00.49 in the 800 meters. Distance men Luke Irwin and Thomas Harris ran times of 9:18.59 and 9:46.01, respectively, in the 3000 meter run, while high jumper Gage Meyer placed fourth with a mark of 6-00.75. The Buffs will be back at it this weekend when they compete at the Texas Tech Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 7, in Lubbock, Texas.
