Lauffer Named NSCAA/MONDO South Central Region Coach of the Year

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M head soccer coach Butch Lauffer has been named the NSCAA/MONDO Men’s South Central Region Coach of the Year announced this past weekend. Lauffer is currently in his 19th season as the head coach of the men’s and women’s programs. The award comes after the Buffs cruised through the regular season with a steady amount of scoring and strong defense to win a share of the Lone Star Conference Championship with rival Midwestern State, who they tied in both regular season meetings. WT met their match in the South Central Region Championship match as they fell to eventual National Champion and #1 ranked Fort Lewis, 3-1 to finish the season with a 15-2-2 overall record. The Buffs improved their national ranking throughout the season from 19 all the way to #3 in the final regular season NSCAA poll, third is the highest a Buff team has ever been ranked in school history. Lauffer also eclipsed a personal milestone this season, on Sept. 13 against University of Texas-Permian Basin he registered his 400th career victory as the Lady Buffs defeated the Falcons, 3-1. Lauffer has a combined record of 422-167-40 (.671) during his 19 seasons of coaching.
