Nine Buffs Garner LSC Postseason Honors
Nov. 12, 2009 CANYON, Texas - Nine members of the #3 West Texas A&M men's soccer team were honored with LSC postseason awards announced Thursday afternoon by the conference. Four Buffs were named to the all-LSC first team: Nicki Nielsen (SO, Oelhelm, Denmark), Ben Everson (JR, Middlesbrough, England), Colin Bjostad (SO, Flower Mound, Texas), and Jacob Fynboe Jensen (SR, Horsens, Denmark). Everson is the leader in goals (13) and total points (27) for the Buffs and also earned the title of LSC Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Fellow first-teamer Bjostad collected a total of four goals, two of which were game-winning, and had one assist on the season. Lance Parks (JR, Houston, Texas), Freddy Dominguez (El Paso, Texas) , Abel Olivas (FR, Amarillo, Texas), Aaron Thornton (SR, Pearl, Miss.) and Sebastian Furness (SO, Middlesbrough, England) were named to the all-LSC second team for their efforts on the pitch this season. Olivas was also named Co-Freshman of the Year for his efforts including one goal and one assist on the season. Freshman midfielder Theo Furness (Middlesbrough, England) was named honorable mention for his efforts on the pitch.
The LSC also announced all-Academic awards where senior midfielder Jensen was named the Academic Player of the Year, for maintaining a 3.93 cumulative grade point average while tallying two goals and four assists on the season. During his collegiate career, Jensen has earned all-LSC honors three times as well as been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team member for the third time. Teammates Nielsen, John Cox (SO, Amarillo, Texas) and Shane Taylor (JR, Keller, Texas) were also selected for the LSC All-Academic Team for their success in the classroom. The Buffs face fellow co-LSC champion and rival Midwestern State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship South Central Regional on Friday in Durango, Colo. The teams have met twice this season for a total of 220 minutes with both matches ending in a tie. Game time is set for 12 p.m. CST. |
