Buffs Return Home To Resume SSC Action

The West Texas A&M University Buffalo soccer team returns to the friendly confines of Kimbrough Memorial Stadium this weekend for a pair of Southwest Soccer Conference matches, after a brutal four-match road stretch to Colorado. The Buffaloes will take on St. Edward's University on Friday and traditional-rival Midwestern State University on Sunday. Both games will begin at 1 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

The Buffaloes are currently 8-4 on the season with a 7-0 SSC mark, currently atop the conference standings at the half-way point.

WTAMU is coming off a 1-1 weekend in which they defeated Colorado School of Mines, 2-1, this past Friday and then lost to No. 5 Fort Lewis, 6-0 on Sunday. Against Colorado School of Mines, WTAMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two goals from Josh Fender and then held on for the 2-1 victory. In the second match against Fort Lewis, WTAMU had trouble getting started and never really recovered after falling behind.

St. Edward's is currently ranked sixth in the conference with a 2-4 record and a 3-8-1 record overall on the season. WTAMU defeated St. Edward's earlier this season, 2-0, in Austin. St. Edward's played one game last week and they were defeated by St. Mary's, 4-3. So far on the season St. Edward's is led by Robert Descant who has tallied four goals on the season for eight points. Also helping out on offense is Noor Jehangir who has a goal and three assists so far on the season for five total points.

Midwestern State comes to town on Sunday with a 4-1-1 conference record and a 6-3-1 record overall. The Indians only loss in conference play came on Sept. 19 to WTAMU, 3-0. This last weekend Midwestern went 0-2 in Colorado, losing to Fort Lewis, 4-2, and then to Colorado School of Mines, 2-0. So far leading the Indians have been led by senior forward Jimmy Krueger, who has eight goals and three assists on the season for 19 points overall. Also helping out on offense has been junior midfielder Keegan Hudson who has seven goals and three assists on the season for a total of 17 points.

The Buffs again hit the road next week and this time head east for a pair of SSC matches against Northeastern State on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday against Missouri Southern at 3 p.m., as well.
