West Texas A&M Dominates Southwest Soccer Conference Weekly Awards

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M's Ben Everson and Shane Taylor were recognized as the Offensive and Defensive Southwest Soccer Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 24 after they helped the Buffaloes collect wins over Eastern New Mexico and St. Mary's while outscoring their opponents by a combined 11-1 margin. Everson, a freshman forward, scored four goals and tallied one assist last week as the Buffs beat ENMU, 7-1, and St. Mary's, 4-0; he also had the gamewinner in each game. Everson has made his presence felt during his first season in Canyon as he now leads the squad in goals, with eight, and points, with 17. Taylor, another freshman, made two saves and recorded his fourth shutout of the season in 158:07 minutes in goal during the last week as WTAMU improved to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference. The Buffs are on the road this weekend as they face Colorado School of Mines tonight at 8 p.m. and No. 24 Ft. Lewis at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 7. In the Midwest region, Ft. Lewis is ranked third, Colorado Mines is fifth and WTAMU is sixth.
