The West Texas A&M University men's soccer team hits the road this weekend to play a pair of Southwest Soccer Conference matches. The Buffs kickoff on Friday, Sept. 16 at Austin, Texas against St. Edward's University. WTAMU will then face traditional rival Midwestern State University on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Wichita Falls, Texas. Midwestern and West Texas A&M are the only two undefeated teams left in the conference so Sunday's showdown is very important for both teams.

St. Edward's is 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. St. Edwards is lead by sophomore midfielder Noor Jehangir who has tallied a goal and an assist on the season. Also playing well and leading St. Edward's is junior midfielder Robert Descant who has tallied a goal on the season. St. Edward's defeated Missouri Southern over the weekend, 2-1, and lost a tough game to Northeastern State, 2-1.

The second game of this road trip is against the No. 6 team in the nation, Midwestern State. The Indians are undefeated so far this season and have only allowed three goals. Midwestern is 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Midwestern is led by senior forward Jimmy Krueger who has tailed and eye-popping eight goals and two assists in only four games. Also playing well for Midwestern is junior midfielder Keegan Hudson who has scored four goals and also has two assists on the season. In goal is sophomore Sean Gill and he has only allowed 3 goals on the season.

West Texas A&M is currently 3-0 both overall and in conference play. WTAMU is coming off a successful weekend in which they defeated both St. Mary's, 6-1, and last years conference champs Incarnate Word, 1-0. Against St. Mary's the Buffs looked very impressive, getting goals from six different players. On Sunday the Buffs defeated Incarnate Word on an early goal by freshmen defender Nick Stevenson off a corner kick from freshmen midfielder Antonio Barrera. The Buffs then held on and played good defense for the remainder of the match only allowing one shot on goal. The defense is headed up by freshman goalie Shawn Carr who moved to 3-0 on the season after the big win against Incarnate Word. Carr has still yet to give up a goal on the season. Other players leading the Buffs are senior forward Josh Fender who has tallied two goals on the season and Barrera who has tallied two goals and two assists on the season.

The Buffs wrap up the road swing with a match at Oklahoma City University on Tuesday, Sept. 20. WTAMU returns home to host Northeastern State University and Missouri Southern State University on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 25, respectively.
