#24 Buffs Top #1 Midwestern State, 3-2, In Double Overtime
Nov. 9, 2008 CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M men's soccer team took a huge step towards the NCAA postseason on Sunday afternoon, as they knocked off the #1 nationally ranked Mustangs of Midwestern State, 3-2, in double overtime in front of 115 fans at The Pitch on Senior Day. The entire first half was a defensive struggle, seeing just eight shots taken by both teams. The Mustangs and Buffs entered the locker room at halftime tied at 0-0. MSU got the offense going early in the second half, scoring two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead. WT answered with an Itamar Keinan (Senior, Kiryat Haim, Israel) goal in the 77:00 minute off an assist from Tommy Nutter (Senior, Berkshire, England). WT evened up the score in the 82:00 minute on a Ben Everson (Sophomore, Middlesbrough, England) shot from four yards out off an assist from Keinan and Nutter. The game remained in a 2-2 tie until the 105:00 minute, when Keinan struck again, this time on a shot from three yards out off a pass from fellow senior Austin Ridling (McKinney, Texas) to give WT the victory. Sebastian Furness (Freshman, Middlesbrough, England) picked up the win in goal for the Buffs, tallying eight saves on 15 Mustang shots. The Buffs now await the release of the NCAA Tournament pairing that will be released Monday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m. on NCAA.com
