#4 Buffs Clinch Share of LSC Championship Title; Drops Northeastern, 3-0
Nov. 8, 2009 TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The #4 West Texas A&M men's soccer team defeated the Northeastern State RiverHawks on Sunday, 3-0, and clinched a share of the LSC Championship title with the victory. The Buffaloes record improves to 14-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 LSC. The Buffs struck early in the first half, when a Colin Bjostad (SO, Flower Mound, Texas) header found its way in goal off a cross from teammate Lance Parks (JR, Houston, Texas) in the 2nd minute of the match. Later on in the half, Nicki Nielsen (SO, Oelholm, Denmark) landed another shot in goal off an assist from Victor Olivares. The first half would end with the Buffs up 2-0 over the RiverHawks.
The Buffs continued their offensive attack after taking a total of ten shots with one falling in goal. In the 82nd minute Abel Olivas (FR, Amarillo, Texas) blasted the final goal of the match in from 25 yards out.
Sebastian Furness picked up the win in goal for the Buffs, tallying a total of four saves to preserve the shutout.
The #4 Buffs now wait to hear where and when they'll be hitting the pitch against as NCAA DII Postseason Brackets will be announced on a web-broadcast on Monday evening on NCAA.com at 6:00 p.m CST. WT entered this weekend as the top seed in the South Central Region as well as #4 in the NSCAA national polls.
