No. 18 WTAMU Men's Soccer Beats Northeastern State, 4-0, in Final Home Game

CANYON, Texas - Four different Buffaloes scored en route to a 4-0 West Texas A&M victory over the visiting Northeastern State RiverHawks at The Pitch on Sunday afternoon. Junior Itamar Keinan scored a goal and tallied an assist to help the No. 18 ranked Buffs win their last home game of the season, improving to 13-2 overall with a 6-1 Southwest Soccer Conference mark. Keinan opened up the scoring after 1:14 minutes of play as he beat NSU goalkeeper Ransone Rose to the near post from the center of the box. Sophomore Jacob Fynboe Jensen had the assist as the Buffs took a very early 1-0 lead. Senior Tomer Otor put the Buffs up, 2-0, in the 11th minute when he took a through-ball from junior Tommy Nutter past the RiverHawk defenders and sent he shot from the left side to the far post. The goal marked Otor's first of the season. Devon Murray replaced Rose in the net for NSU in the second half. Rose finished the match with three saves and two goals against in 45:00 minutes of play. Freshman Ben Everson continued his scoring onslaught this season by putting WTAMU ahead by a 3-0 margin in the 61st minute. He scored his 13th goal of the season when senior Kenneth Christensen sent a long goal kick to the opposite end of the field; Murray came out towards the top of the box and Everson sent a one-touch lofted ball over his head from 20 yards out. Senior René Gómez added an insurance goal just over six minutes later with an assist from Keinan. Gómez sent his shot from the left side of the box to the near side, beating the diving Murray from 10 yards out.
There were a number of fouls in the game - 14 called on WTAMU, 16 called on NSU - and each squad had a player receive a red card. The Buffaloes out-shot NSU by a whopping 31-7 margin as Murray finished the match with four saves for the RiverHawks. Freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor was mostly unchallenged throughout the match, finishing with one save in 90:00 minutes of play. West Texas A&M finishes their season on the road against Texas A&M International on Oct. 28, St. Mary's on Oct. 30, and Midwestern State on Nov. 4. |
