Christensen Spurs Buffs to 3-0 Victory over Texas-Wesleyan

CANYON, Texas - Senior captain Kenneth Christensen notched the game-winning goal and added an assist on Wednesday as the West Texas A&M men's soccer team earned a victory during the team's home opener at The Pitch, defeating Texas Wesleyan by the score of 3-0. The victory improves the Buffs' record this season to a perfect 4-0, while Texas Wesleyan falls to 3-2 on the year. After a scoreless first half which saw the Rams hold a slim 5-4 advatage in shots, WTAMU took over during the game's final 45 minutes with Christensen leading the way. The Hedensted, Denmark, native broke the scoring ice by burying a header off a free kick taken by Adi Dzebic at the 53:49 mark, giving the Buffs the initial lead. Just minutes later, at the 58:29 mark, Itamar Keinan stretched the home lead to 2-0 with his first goal of the season on a rebound opportunity following a Christensen shot. Senior René Gómez tallied the final goal of the afternoon for the Buffs, his third of the season, by firing a shot from 15 yards that found its way to the back of the net in front of the far post. WTAMU controlled much of the play after halftime, holding a 15-3 advantage in second half shots. Freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor made four saves to post his second shutout of the season and lower his goal against average to 0.50. West Texas A&M men's soccer is back in action next Monday when it hosts Texas A&M-International in a 3 p.m. contest at The Pitch.
