2009: Nielsen began his sophomore season as a caption of the Buff squad and during the 2009 campaign, Nielsen would not disappoint. He was second in goals scored (7), number of points (16) and game winning goals (2) behind teammate Ben Everson on the Buff season leader boards. Nielsen held the highest shot on goal percentage of the team at .917 after taking 11 of 12 shots on goal. Nielsen was a perfect 3-for-3 converting all penalty kick attempts into goals. Nielsen scored a pair of goals in the Buffs 5-0 victory over the University of the Southwest. Nielsen was named to the all-LSC first team for his efforts on the pitch and to the LSC all-Academic team for his effort in the classroom. Nielsen was also named to the Daktronics all-American first team as well as the Daktronics first-team all-region.

2008: Nielsen made the most of his freshman year by scoring 2 goals and adding an assist during the season. His first collegiate and game winning goal came during WT's 2-0 shutout against Colorado School of Mines.

High School: Nielsen attended Vejle Handelsskole (Denmark).

Personal: Nielsen is the son of Jens Nielsen and Birthe Teglgaard and has one sibling, Sabrina. Nielsen is a Marketing major at West Texas A&M.
