Neal Leads Regional Tournament after Round One
May 7, 2007 FLORENCE, Ala. - After shooting four birdies and one eagle on the first nine holes Monday, West Texas A&M senior Kent Neal leads the South/South Central Regional Golf Tournament with a seven under par 65. Neal is three strokes in front of Central Oklahoma's Mitch Boles, who is in second place, and six shots ahead of third place Sam Powell of Northeastern State. The Amarillo, Texas, native began Monday morning on the No. 10 tee box and collected two pars, before getting one of his six birdies on the third hole. Before making the turn Neal finished the final three holes of the back nine on a torrid pace with two birds and an eagle. On the front nine, Neal began with three pars before knocking in his fifth birdie, but dropped a stroke on a bogy. However, he did not let the extra swing affect his last three holes, as Neal produced two more pars and a birdie to finish the day on top. Tee times for the second round are yet to be determined.
