WTAMU Golf Opens Spring Portion Of Schedule In Coming Days

The West Texas A&M men's and women's golf teams will begin their 2006 spring season this next week as the women will play on Saturday and Sunday at the St. Mary's University Rattler Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. The men will be playing on Monday and Tuesday at the St. Edward's University Invitational in Austin, Texas.
The women's golf team is coming of a successful fall season as they had two top half finishes. Their best was a third-place finish on Sept. 26-27 in the Drury Invitational at Springfield, Mo. Leading the way for the Lady Buffs in the Drury Invitational was sophomore Madison Easley who finished the tournament tied for ninth. Freshmen Brittyne Lewis also played well in the tournament as she finished in a tie for 12th place.
The Lady Buffs' other top half finish was sixth out of 14 in the Tarleton State University Invitational on October 10th and 11th. Leading the way for the WTAMU was junior Beth Ann Nussbaum who finished in a tie for 10th place. Senior Rachel Clark also fared well, finishing in a tie for 14th.
The WTAMU men golfers also had a thriving fall season as they had two top half finishes as well. The Buffs' best finish was a third place finish out of 13 teams at Abilene Christian University Charles Coody West Texas Invitational in Abilene, Texas, in the men's first action of the fall. Leading the way for the Buffs was junior Paul Slaughter who finished in a tie for third place at +2. Slaughter barely edged his freshmen teammate Geoff Phemister who finished in a tie for seventh place at +3.
The Buffs competed at the Northeastern State Men's Classic in Muskogee, Okla. which took place Sept. 26 and 27. The Buffs finished sixth out of 14 in the tournament and were led again by Paul Slaughter who shot an even par.
Senior Thomas Maldonado and junior Spud Dillingham are also expected to do well this spring.
