Men's Golf Moves Up To Sixth After Day One

The West Texas A&M University men's golf team improved one spot to sixth-place after the first day of play at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate hosted by Cameron University Invitational at Lawton Country Club at Lawton, Okla.

WTAMU was in seventh-place after the first 18-hole round Monday, but fired a combined 298 in the second round to move up a spot.

Individually, junior Thomas Maldonaldo and sophomore Paul Slaughter are tied for 14th with a two-round total of 147.

Central Oklahoma's Todd Dayton is atop the leaderboard with a 4-under 138, just ahead of teammate Matt Ellis and Cameron's Ryan King with 139's.

As a team, WTAMU sits 40 strokes behind the leader, Central Oklahoma with a 563. Host-Cameron is second with a 579, while UCO's JV is tied for third with St. Mary's with a 590, just ahead of Northwood's 591. WTAMU is followed by St. Mary's JV with a 610, Texas A&M-Commerce at 613 and Dallas Baptist with a 622.

Senior Joshua Luongo carded a one-under 70 to move up to a tie for 19th with a 149, followed by sophomore James Dillingham, in a tie for 29th with a 153, just ahead of senior Chris Washburn in a tie for 32nd with a 154. Senior Jon Reynolds is 46th with a 158. Individual senior Trey Latham is tied for 25th with a 151.

The Intercollegiate concludes with a final 18-hole round Tuesday.
