SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The West Texas A&M University men's golf team's bid to qualify for nationals as a team came up short, but junior Joshua Luongo qualify as an individual by finishing second at the NCAA-II West Regional at Springfield, Mo.

Luongo carded a 72 Wednesday, to finish the three-round Regional with a combined two-over par 212, one stroke behind Pierre Goethals from Abilene Christian University, who captured individual medalist honors with a one-over 211. Both Luongo and Goethals qualify for the National Tournament May 12-15, at Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand, Florida as part of the NCAA Division II Sports Festival.

WTAMU, making its first-ever appearance at the regionals as a team, finished with a combined 892, tying with the University of Central Oklahoma for third-place. Northeastern State University fired a combined 869, shooting the lowest round of the day with a 279, to take top team honors, while St. Edward's University captured second with an 886. Both Northeastern State and St. Edward's qualify for the National Tournament.
