West Texas A&M Places Fifth at Mustang Intercollegiate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The West Texas A&M men’s golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the Mustang Intercollegiate, hosted by Western New Mexico University, which concluded Tuesday at the UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The Buffs shot three-round scores of 302-308-295=905 on the par 72, 7,324-yard course. The Buffs entered the final day of the tournament in seventh place. Leading the Buffs was Brandon Holub (junior, Gilbert, Ariz.), who tied for seventh with rounds of 75-77-69=221. He was followed by Geoff Phemister (senior, Canyon, Texas), who was five strokes back with rounds of 71-74-81=226 to place in a tie for 22nd. Tanner White (senior, Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask.) placed in a tie for 26th with rounds of 76-80-72=228, while Roy Holdeman (junior, Anthony, N.M.) tied for 37th with rounds of 82-77-74=233. Rounding out the Buff’s scoring was Colin Cruz (soph., Amarillo, Texas), who placed 50th with rounds of 80-80-80=240. New Mexico’s ‘B’ team won the event with scores of 278-281-284=843, with Central Missouri second (290-296-287=873) and Fort Lewis third (301-296-286=883). New Mexico’s Parker Pemberton took top individual honors, defeating Central Missouri’s Jason Yoder by three strokes. Pemberton recorded rounds of 67-67-70=204, while Yoder carded 68-71-68=207. The Buffs next outing will be March 30-31, when they host the West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede, to be held at La Paloma Country Club, in Amarillo, Texas.
