West Texas A&M Places Eighth at Red River Intercollegiate

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – The West Texas A&M men’s golf team finished in a tie for 12th at the Red River Intercollegiate, hosted by East Central University, which concluded Tuesday at the Winstar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla. The Buffs shot two-day scores of 300-303=603 on the par 72, 7,288-yard course. That 603, combined with the 621 recorded by the Lady Buffs, allowed WT to bring home the Red River Trophy for the second-consecutive year. Leading the Buffs was Brandon Holub (junior, Gilbert, Ariz.), tied for 18th with rounds of 77-72=149. He was followed by Geoff Phemister (senior, Canyon, Texas), who was one stroke back with rounds of 73-77=150 to place in a tie for 23rd. Tanner White (senior, Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask.) placed in a tie for 37th with rounds of 75-77=152, while Roy Holdeman (junior, Anthony, N.M.) tied for 42nd with rounds of 76=77=153. Rounding out the Buff’s scoring was Colin Cruz (soph., Amarillo, Texas), who tied for 46th with rounds of 76-78=154. Northeastern State won the event with scores of 291-294=585, with Oklahoma Baptist second (304-288=592) and Missouri Southern third (298-295=593). Oklahoma Baptist’s Chase Lindsey took top individual honors, defeating Texas A&M-Commerce’s Pinkey Hartline in a playoff. Lindsey recorded rounds of 74-70=144, while Hartline carded 69-75=144. The Buffs next outing will be March 23-24, when they compete in the Western New Mexico Invitational, to be held at the UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
