CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M 2009 football schedule finds the Buffaloes facing three teams who participated in the 2008 NCAA Division II playoffs. The season also marks the 50th year of WTAMU football in Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

The schedule, which features five home contests, sees the Buffs open the season with a pair of home games, beginning with perennial power Grand Valley State in the season-opener, Aug. 29 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Lakers finished the ‘08 campaign ranked fourth with an 11-1 record. A Sept. 5 finds a visit by Lone Star Conference crossover opponent Central Oklahoma.

The Buffs second non-conference game is a road trip to face Central Washington, Sept. 12, in Ellensburg, Wash. WT defeated the Cougars, 49-42, in the 2008 playoffs.

WT also makes LSC crossover trips to face Southwestern Oklahoma (Sept. 19) and Northeastern State (Oct. 31).

The traditional LSC South schedule finds the Buffs hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sept. 26). That same day, in 1959, saw WT and Arizona State play in the first football game hosted at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. A homecoming match-up against Eastern New Mexico (Oct. 10), and a contest against Angelo State (Oct. 24) round out the 2009 home slate.
